Working Together

Our strong, supportive culture is based on the real sense of partnership between home and school. Children are up to 25% more successful in school when parents are actively involved in their  education. We encourage this through:

Excellent Communication

We have developed a range of materials to support the relationship between school and home. In addition to the weekly newsletter, which provides you with up-to date events and activities, support leaflets in maths and topic areas help parents get up to speed with current teaching methods; target leaflets give ideas and tips on how to develop your child’s education in a fun way and regular consultation evenings with staff ensure the flow of communication is a two-way process. Our website is regularly updated with all the latest news and information and our children are picked up from the classroom at the end of the day, giving parents and carers an opportunity to catch up with teachers every single day.

Homework

We believe that by taking work home regularly, children gain independence and a greater responsibility for their own learning. It also offers an opportunity for them to discuss their school life with you. Home learning supports the learning that takes place in school and enables you to work with your child, discussing their learning and helping them take it forward. We set homework twice a week (Monday and Wednesday) and have an expectation that children will practise reading daily - just 10 minutes really does make all the difference!

Events Committee

We have a vibrant team of volunteers who put on a range of fund raising activities for our children. Previous events have included discos, cinema trips, bingo nights, summer and Christmas fayres, Christmas parties and the year 6 leavers party. As well as giving children the opportunity to socialise outside of school hours in a safe and caring environment, these events raise £1,000’s each year.

Volunteering in School

We have a large number of volunteers helping in all areas of school life, supporting children with reading, making displays or props for the Christmas nativity, attending school trips, being on the Events Committee or standing as a governor. We really do welcome any support that you can offer.

Working with local community Partners

We are fortunate to have excellent relationships with many local community partners. Our strong links with St George’s and Chatham & Clarendon House have allowed us to develop new projects such as ‘Maths in Motion’ (a car racing program designed to challenge our more able mathematicians). This proactive approach to seeking support from our community has also benefited our children, both by funding projects and by providing opportunities too for our children to gain a wider range of exciting, real-life experiences within their organisations.

We have been very fortunate to have support from Perry's Vauxhall and look forward to continuing to develop this partnership.
